OCHA mobilizes humanitarian assistance for all people in need. For more information: unocha.org reliefweb.int In 1991, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 46/182. It aimed to strengthen the United Nations’ response to emergencies and disasters and to improve humanitarian operations in the field.  Created the Emergency Relief Coordinator as a focal point and voice for humanitarian emergencies Established: * Department for Humanitarian Affairs (which became OCHA in 1998) * Inter-Agency Standing Committee * Consolidated Appeals Process * Central Emergency Revolving Fund WHAT WE DO Coordination OCHA brings together people, tools and experience to save lives Advocacy OCHA speaks on behalf of people affected by conflict and disaster Information Management OCHA collects, analyses and shares critical information Humanitarian Financing OCHA organizes and monitors humanitarian funding Policy OCHA provides guidance and clarity on humanitarian policy Preparedness OCHA helps prepare for the next crisis by: developing contingency plans, mobilizing support from regional networks, analyzing vulnerability, dispensing early warning information, supporting national capacity - building, working with goverments to stregthen their capacity. Emergency Response OCHA sends experts to crisis-affected areas, ensuring the right people are on the ground when new or escalating emergencies require support. OCHA maintains an Emergency Response Roster, composed of OCHA staff who can immediately deploy. Additional external capacity is provided through the OCHA-managed Associates Surge Pool and the Stand-By Partnerships Programme. In addition, OCHA coordinates the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination mechanism (UNDAC) HUMANITARIAN PROGRAMME CYCLE OCHA coordinates efforts to plan humanitarian action, obtain funding and monitor progress in the aftermath of sudden disasters and during protracted crises. INTER-AGENCY STANDING COMMITTEE The ERC chairs the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC), wich includes UN agencies, NGOs and other humanitarian organizations. The IASC is the main mechanism for coordination in emergencies. OCHA MÉXICO OCHA tiene en México un Asesor Nacional de Respuesta a Desastres (NDRA por sus siglas en inglés) desde 2009. El asesor está basado en la oficina del Coordinador Residente de la ONU y trabaja en estrecha colaboración con la Secretaría de Estado (SEGOB), el Sistema Nacional de Protección Civil (SINAPROC) y el Sistema de las Naciones Unidas para fortalecer las capacidades nacionales en cuanto a gestión de desastres. En 2011, el Gobierno de México solicitó oficialmente el apoyo de OCHA para coordinar actividades de preparación y respuesta frente a terremotos como parte del Plan Nacional de Terremoto. Desde entonces, OCHA ha prestado apoyo técnico a las autoridades nacionales de acuerdo con las directrices y herramientas internacionales. El trabajo de OCHA en México consiste en el fortalecimiento de las capacidades nacionales en preparación y respuesta a desastres, la recepción y el suministro de ayuda humanitaria, el desarrollo de protocolos de gestión de la información y el proporcionar apoyo al Coordinador Residente de la ONU. Además, OCHA proporciona apoyo para mejorar la coordinación del plan nacional de contingencia con el plan de respuesta a emergencias de las Naciones Unidas.
