How online payments are made with 3DSecure?

En Preguntas Frecuentes, Sobre Aportaciones

How it works
Make your online purchase / payment / contribution on the Internet as usual, enter the card number, expiration date and the cryptogram (3-digit code on the back of the card to the far right of the signature). After having entered this information, and continue with the process you will be redirected to your bank’s website that will request additional information to verify the authentication.

What is authentication?
When you make a 3DSecure online payment, and you are redirected to your bank’s website, it will require information that is only supposed to be known by you, to prove that you are the owner of the card.

Each bank is free to choose the means of authentication, these can be:

  • An unique security code per transaction sent by your bank to your mobile phone via SMS, BBVA WALLET, etc.
  • A classic password (which can change).
  • A coordinate card that your bank must have given you (you will be asked to enter the number corresponding to a column and row).
  • An electronic device system (you will be asked to enter a code that changes).
  • Your birth date.
  • Others

What your bank’s server does is confirm to the online store that you are the owner of the card, this is called “Authentication”.

Once this information is entered, you will return to the website where you are making your online purchase / payment / contribution and your payment will be confirmed as successful or rejected.
